What is the Sustainable Construction Programme?

The sustainable construction programme is a student initiative at Oxford Brookes University which aims to raise awareness of sustainable construction as well as providing practical experience in sustainable building. Workshops involve hands-on tuition from sustainable construction experts for a small group of students and these are followed by an evening lecture to a wider audience.

Lime Workshop 15th Feb 08

The lime workshop at the Lime Centre was fantastic! We made a brick wall with lime mortar and learnt the tricky technique of rendering with lime. Bob showed us how to make lime putty - mix previously fired lime with water and FIZZ BUBBLE lime putty! (then leave for 6 months before you can use it).
Bob also showed us his llamas and the straw bale llama house we all saw in the lecture.

Wow! Looks like a fantastic 'hands-on' experience. Something that could and perhaps should be incorporated into the architectural education? I'll certainly be looking forward to the timber and bamboo workshops
